Help Sales & POS

Which day does a sale count on?

Business days, late closes, orders paid in advance and checks left open, for each POS.

Checked against the app November 5, 2026

Every sale in Maitaki belongs to one business day. Usually that’s obvious. It gets less obvious after midnight, when an order is paid on a different day from when it’s eaten, or when a check is still open.

The rule for each system

Maitaki follows the same rule your POS uses in its own reports, so your daily totals line up with it.

SystemA sale counts on
ToastThe check’s Toast business date.
CloverThe day of the order’s first payment. A refund counts on the day it happens, not the day of the sale.
LoyverseThe time of the receipt, in your business day.
ValorThe time of the charge, in your business day.
Logged cashThe day you log it for.

For Loyverse and Valor, your business day runs up to your Day ends at time. With the default of 4:00 AM, a sale at 1:15 AM counts toward the night before. See Set your business day and timezone.

Orders paid in advance

Sometimes the money comes in on one day for an order on another, like a catering deposit taken today for Saturday. With Toast:

  • The money counts on the day it was taken. It’s in that day’s card or cash total, which is what your terminal and deposit show.
  • The sale counts in net sales on the order’s own day.

You’ll see this on the report summary and the day sheet:

You’ll seeWhat it means
Paid in advanceMoney taken on this day for a later order. Collected here, not in net sales here.
Paid earlierAn order in this day’s net sales that was paid on an earlier day. Its money was counted then.

Nothing is counted twice.

Checks that aren’t paid yet

A Toast check with no payment yet still counts in net sales on its own day, with nothing collected. On the report, it gets a Not paid yet row in Share of sales, and a note like Check #47 isn’t paid yet.

  1. Tap See to open the list.
  2. Each check shows its number, when it was opened, when it’s due, and what it owes.

Once it’s paid in Toast, the payment counts on the check’s own day and the row goes away. Catering and pre-orders are often paid later. A check left open by mistake should be closed in Toast.

Common questions

A Clover order was rung up last night but shows today.

Clover orders count on the day of their first payment. If it was paid this morning, it’s in today’s sales, the same as in Clover’s own report.

I changed my day-end time. Will old days move?

Sales that count by their time, like Loyverse and Valor, can move to a different day. Maitaki re-sorts your history under the new time, and totals refresh in a minute or two.
