Lunch and dinner often run very differently: a slow lunch with a full crew can hide inside a good day. The Lunch / Dinner card on the Labor Report splits your sales and labor at a set time, so you can see each one on its own.
Find the split
- From the Dashboard, tap the Labor title. You’re on the Report tab.
- Pick your dates at the top.
- Scroll down to Lunch / Dinner.
Each half shows its labor % in the same colors as the rest of the Report: green under 30%, amber from 30%, red from 50%. Under it are that half’s sales, labor cost, labor % including tax, and hours.
Each labor % is of that half’s own sales. Lunch labor divided by lunch sales, dinner labor divided by dinner sales.
How the split works
- split at at the top right is your cutoff. Anything before it is lunch, and anything from it on is dinner. It starts at 4:00 PM.
- A shift that runs across the cutoff is split too: the hours before it count to lunch, the rest to dinner.
- Cash logged for a whole day has no time on it, so it’s shared between lunch and dinner the same way that day’s card sales were. The card says how much, like Includes $670.50 of all-day cash, split like that day’s card sales.
- incl. est. salary means salaried pay is spread into both halves.
Move the cutoff
A Manager or above can change the time.
- Open the account menu (your location and avatar, top right on a phone; bottom left on a computer) and tap Settings.
- Tap your location, then Labor.
- Under Labor rules, set Lunch / Dinner cutoff.
- Tap Save labor rules.
The new cutoff applies straight away, to every date you look at, including past ones. The other labor rules on this card are explained in Set labor rules.
Common questions
I don't see the Lunch / Dinner card.
It only shows when there are sales or labor in the dates you picked. Try a wider range.
We serve breakfast too. Can I add a third part of the day?
No. There’s one cutoff, so breakfast counts as lunch. Set the cutoff to when your evening service starts.
Why is lunch labor % so much higher than dinner?
Usually because prep happens in the morning. Prep cooks and openers are paid before lunch sales come in, so their hours land in lunch.
