Add sizes to a recipe

Cost a cup and a bowl, or a small and a large, from one recipe instead of keeping copies.

When you serve one recipe in more than one size, add the sizes to the recipe. Each size gets its own cost, worked out from the batch, so you don’t keep a separate recipe for every size.

Add a size

  1. Tap Library, then the Recipes tab, and open the recipe.
  2. Tap the pencil icon at the top right.
  3. Check the Recipe Yield first. Sizes are measured in the same unit.
  4. Under Sizes, type a name, for example Cup.
  5. In the next box, enter how much of the yield unit that size uses, for example 0.25.
  6. Tap +. Add as many sizes as you need.
  7. Tap Done.

To remove a size, tap the trash icon next to it while editing.

How a size is costed

Each size shows COG ~ and a cost. It’s the size’s share of the batch:

size amount ÷ yield × food cost

Example: a soup yields 4 qt and costs $12.00 to make.

SizeAmountCost
Cup0.25 qtCOG ~$0.75
Bowl0.5 qtCOG ~$1.50

The cost moves with your ingredient prices, like the rest of the recipe.

Common questions

Why can't I enter the size in ounces when the recipe yields quarts?

Sizes always use the recipe’s yield unit. Change the yield to the unit you think in, for example 128 fl oz instead of 4 qt, and enter sizes in fluid ounces.

How do I cost a cup of soup on my menu?

Link the soup recipe to the menu item and set the amount one cup uses, here 0.25. See Link recipes to menu items.

The size shows no cost.

The recipe has no food cost yet, usually because its lines can’t be priced. Fix those first. See Units and conversions in recipes.
