Draft a recipe with Chat

Describe a dish in Chat and Maitaki drafts the full recipe, costed from your ingredients. Nothing is saved until you approve it.

Typing a recipe in line by line takes a while. In Chat you can describe the dish instead, and Maitaki drafts it: ingredients matched to the ones you buy, quantities, a yield and steps. You check the draft, then save it or open it to edit.

Ask for a draft

  1. Tap Chat.
  2. Describe the dish and how much it makes. For example: Write a recipe for our house chili, 2 gallons, using ground beef, kidney beans and crushed tomatoes.
  3. Send it.

The more you say about quantities, yield and method, the closer the draft will be to how you make it.

Read the draft

The draft appears as a card marked Proposed — new recipe. It shows:

PartWhat it means
YieldsHow much the draft makes
✓ linkedMatched to an ingredient you already buy
+ newNot in your ingredients yet; it’ll be created when you approve
The cost on each lineThat line’s cost at today’s prices, or — if it can’t be priced
Est. COG (priced lines)The total of the lines that could be priced. A + after it means some lines aren’t counted yet

New ingredients have no price until they appear on an invoice. The card says so before you approve.

Save it

Choose one:

  • Approve & save creates the recipe as drafted.
  • Edit first creates it and opens it ready to edit, so you can change the yield, add or remove lines, and tidy the steps. Tap Done when you’re finished.
  • Discard throws the draft away.

After you approve, the card shows approved. Tap View › to open the recipe in your Library.

Common questions

Can Maitaki read a recipe from a photo?

No. Recipe photos and PDFs aren’t read into recipes. Type the recipe into Chat as a message and ask for a draft, or build it yourself. See Cost a recipe.

The draft linked the wrong ingredient.

Tap Edit first, remove that line with the trash icon, and add the right ingredient with Add ingredient. Or tell Chat what’s wrong and ask for a new draft.

It says my role is view-only.

Viewers can ask for drafts but can’t save them. Ask a Member, Manager or Owner to approve it, or ask for your role to be changed. See Roles: who can do what.
