Profit per dish and margin alerts

See which dishes earn the most from real sales, which ones need a new price, and which got hit by an ingredient price rise.

Checked against the app November 6, 2026

Profit per dish puts your real sales next to what each dish costs to make. For any dates you pick, it shows what each dish brought in, what it cost, and the profit left over, and it flags dishes whose margin is slipping.

It works from item-by-item POS sales, such as Toast’s, and needs your dishes linked to their recipes. See Link recipes to menu items.

Open it

  1. Open Sales from your Dashboard, then tap the Menu tab. The Profit leaders card on your Dashboard opens it too. See Find your sales.
  2. Tap Profit.
  3. Pick your dates at the top.

To see one channel only, tap it in the row above the list, such as dine-in or a delivery app. All channels shows everything.

Check your coverage

The first card says Margins cover X% of sales, and how many dishes are linked. Profit is only worked out for dishes with a recipe, so a low number means many sales aren’t counted. Dishes without one show link recipe → instead of a profit.

Read the list

Each dish under Profit per dish shows:

Margin alerts

The ⚑ Margin alerts card lists dishes that use an ingredient whose latest price is at least 5% higher than the time before, with the ingredient and how much it went up: Ground beef +12%. Tap a dish to open it.

An alert is a prompt to check the dish’s price or portion. To see the price history behind it, see Current price and price history.

Cost your add-ons

Add-ons from your POS, like extra cheese, can count toward each dish’s cost. Tap Cost modifiers → in the coverage card. Managers, Admins and Owners can do this.

Common questions

It says "No menu-item sales in this range yet".

Try a longer date range. If it’s still empty, check that your POS sends item-by-item sales and that its items are linked to your menu. See Link POS items to your menu.

I picked a recipe when I added the dish. Do I still need to link it?

What's the Sellers view?

Sellers ranks your dishes by revenue ($) or quantity (Qty), shows each category’s share of sales, and lists your most-added add-ons.
