Handle "Price looks off"

Use the suggested pack, or confirm the price is right.

Who can do this OwnerAdminManagerMember Checked against the app November 5, 2026

Maitaki checks every price on an invoice against what you normally pay for that ingredient. When one is far off, the line is marked Check price and the invoice waits for you. Most of the time the price itself is fine and the pack was misread, like a case of 36 read as a single item. Until you decide, that price isn’t used for your recipe costs or price alerts.

How Maitaki decides a price looks off

  • When you have history: Maitaki compares the price per pound, gallon or each with what you’ve paid on recently verified invoices. Anywhere from half to double the usual price counts as normal.
  • When you don’t yet: for a new product, Maitaki works out a realistic price range for that product and pack, and checks against that.

While it’s comparing, you’ll see Checking price on the line and Checking prices on the invoice. An invoice isn’t Ready to verify until that’s done.

Fix it

  1. On the invoice, tap the Check price filter chip to see only the flagged lines.
  2. Tap a line. The Price looks off panel says why, with the price recorded and the realistic range, for example Recorded $28.00/each · realistic $0.40–$1.20/each.
  3. Choose what’s true:
    • The pack was read wrong: tap Use the suggested pack, like Use 36 each per case. You’ll see Pack updated — re-checking the price.
    • The price really is right, maybe a special or a real price rise: tap Price is right. You’ll see Got it — this price is marked right.
    • Neither: correct the pack yourself. See Fix “Can’t price” and “Needs pack” lines.

The line’s Unit cost then shows Checked or Normal for you.

Compare with the paper first. Open the original and read the description and pack printed on the line. If it says 36/1 EA and Maitaki read 1, the suggested pack is right. See See the original photo or PDF.

A line for lemons marked Price looks off, with what's usual, Price is right, and editing the pack

Why the pack matters so much

A case of 36 lemons at $28.00 is $0.78 a lemon. Read as one lemon, it’s $28.00 a lemon. Both come from the same line on the invoice. That’s why most flagged prices are a pack problem: some vendors print the case pack but bill per item, or the other way round.

Common questions

Will "Price is right" stop it flagging next time?

Your answer is remembered for that product and pack, and other lines like it that were flagged are checked again. A later price far outside the range can still be flagged.

Can I verify the invoice and decide later?

Yes. In the Verify invoice sheet, tap Looks fine on N prices look off. The flagged prices still aren’t used for your costs until someone fixes or confirms them.

Where else do flagged prices show?

In the Library, where Price looks off shows how many ingredients have a flagged price, and on each of those ingredients’ pages. See Which price Maitaki uses for costing.
