Modifier groups and add-ons

Many dishes come with a choice or an extra: choice of side, add bacon, sauce on the side. In Maitaki each choice is a small recipe with its own cost and price. You can collect choices into a modifier group, like Choice of Side, and attach the group to any dish, or attach a single add-on to one dish.

Make the options as recipes

Each option has to be a recipe with Modifier / Component turned on, so it has a cost.

1. Tap Library, then the Recipes tab, then New recipe.
2. Name it, for example Side Salad, and turn on Modifier / Component.
3. Tap Create & Edit Recipe, add its ingredients, and tap Done.

Create a modifier group

1. Tap Library, then the Menus tab.
2. Under Modifier Groups, tap New group.
3. Enter the Group Name, for example Choice of Side, and tap Create & Add Options.
4. Tap Add option and pick one of your modifier recipes.
5. Enter its Add-on Price. Use $0.00 if it’s included at no extra charge.
6. Tap Add option. Repeat for each choice.

The group shows on the Menus tab with its options listed under its name.

Change or remove options

Open the group from the Menus tab.

Change a price	Tap the price, type the new one, then tap anywhere else to save it
Remove an option	Tap the trash icon next to it
Delete the whole group	Tap the trash icon at the top right. Managers, Admins and Owners only

Attach choices to a dish

You attach groups and add-ons while adding a dish to a menu:

1. On the menu, tap Add item and pick the dish’s recipe.
2. Under Modifier Groups, tap Add group, tick the groups the dish offers, and tap Done.
3. For a one-off extra, under Individual Modifiers tap Add modifier, pick the recipe, enter its Add-on Price and tap Add.
4. Finish the dish as usual and tap Add to Menu. See Create a menu.

On the menu, the dish shows its groups and add-ons as small tags under its name.

Common questions

Can I make guests pick at least one, or at most two?

No. A group is a list of options with prices. It doesn’t set a minimum or maximum number of choices.

Can I rename a group?

No. Create a new group with the right name and add the options to it.

My recipe isn't in the list of options.

Only recipes with Modifier / Component turned on can be options. Open the recipe, tap the pencil icon, turn it on, and tap Done.

How do add-ons sold through my POS affect profit?
